Oggi da Venezia iniziano i “Moskow Days”. Nei prossimi giorni tappe a Bolzano, Milano e Genova

18/09/2017

"Sport is a form of culture and brings people together - said the mayor of Venice, after welcoming the delegation; the exchange of opinions started precisely from sport -: we consider important to invest both in culture and sports' sectors, in particular to create opportunities for young people. What is essential for us here today is defining the content of the Memorandum we are going to sign in order to establish a bilateral partnership on city management and best practices which might be developed.

So the relationship is direct, the time is shorten, main issues are treated, such as water resource or migration, starting from our everyday life. "The Mayor took the opportunity to invite in Venice the city of Moscow to the next International Forum "One thousand cities, millions of citizens: a vision for our future", which the city organizes each year in September, so that Moscow’s experience may be shared with other cities at the discussion table including representatives from various parts of the world. Referring to the embargo imposed on Russia, the first citizen then reiterated his disagreement: "If the relations between our cities are going well, it will be a concrete example to show that the way of sanctions is not efficient."

To bring a couple of concrete examples, Mayor Brugnaro wanted to recall the issue of Superjet International, reiterating the shared idea with the Russian Deputy Prime Minister to create an aeronautical technology park for the revival of the industry, which is out of the embargo. Of extreme importance is the promotion of Murano glass in Moscow: "Help us to make this excellence known. And we could create opportunities for Russian artists to produce their works in our furnaces"

"The Moscow City wished to propose this agreement, with the support of the Duma, to achieve concrete results in several areas," explained the Head of the Russian delegation, Councilor Cheremin, after thanking the mayor and the municipal administration for making it possible to realize the "Moscow Days" in Venice. In particular, we are interested in exchanging experiences in the field of  cultural heritage management, moreover we are ready to create a real system of cultural competitions, to which young people from our cities can participate, some opportunities for exchange and growth. We would also like to introduce an exchange programme between art schools. As far as relations between cities are concerned, we share this bottom-up approach. Moscow also organizes various international forums and conferences. Regarding climate change, we are very active in the C40 Program, and also engaged in education and urban issues, so there are more opportunities for exchange."

The end of the meeting was followed by the exchange of gifts between the Mayor with Cheremin and Duma Gerasimov.
